I go to the bar at the same time every week. While I am there I head out for a smoke. Often times I run into those that are in need. I pass them a smoke and some conversation. I have come to think of these men as “my gentlemen”, people who have fallen on hard times.
The Realization
When I am ready to depart the bar, I leave my tip and say goodbye. As I am heading home I see expensive car after expensive car. This makes me acutely aware that I live in a very wealthy area. I think back to my gentlemen living an extremely rough life. Some how the money changing hands for tips at the bar and the conversation with the gentlemen outside got me thinking : I wonder if I could get a sponsor to “match the tips” of patrons to the bar staff. Those matched tips will be donated to a local charity/social service group.
The endeavor will be a win-win-win for every one involved
-
1)
Patrons will be pleased knowing there tips are are being matched by a sponsor who cares.
-
2)
The sponsor will be held in good regard by patrons and the public, as well as receiving advertising for the sponsorship.
-
3)
Bar staff will catch a boost in tips from patrons
-
4) (Most Important)
Shelters and other social services will receive capital which they will then be able to use to in a variety of ways.
Why are we different?
We create conversations to create more awareness around needs in our community, thus more eyes on the problem by literally putting it on plates. This project will take the blindfold off the communities eyes, while giving the public a megaphone.
Carry the torch to illuminate our power as a community.
The light you have, might shine upon paths that would otherwise go unnoticed.
